You need a workflow.
Set one main location for all images.
Use an application like Adobe Bridge to keyword and rate the images.
You can find particular images and edit then save in the most appropriate format.
The format will depend on whether images are for web or print.

So far, Al’s suggestion is working. I still have some details to consider, but that’s only because of my multiple workflows.
